A dialogue from the movie 'Padman' says.. "Big men and strong men don't make a country strong ... but strong women, strong mothers, strong sisters make a country strong!" The Rotary Clubs of India in Collaboration with Sirona Hygiene Foundation present CUP OF LIFE. Absorb the red flow, Let the green grow! Sanitary napkins take about 500 years to decompose into earth. They wash off into oceans & clog city sewarage systems. Women often overuse pads to save money, leading to infections! Menstrual cups are the solo both these problems.

The cup of life as the name suggests is a project that aims to spread awareness in women from different backgrounds about the importance of menstrual hygiene and menstrual cups. It will educate, empower & enable the women.  It focuses on the idea that menstrual cups are no longer a product used by rich but can be afforded by others too.

These menstrual cups have many advantages. They are sustainable and environment friendly. They prevent bacterial infection as they are made from medical grade silicon. Minimum shelf life of 5 years and are reusable. 125% cost efficient as compared to sanitary napkins and tampons. They save water as we need just half cup of hot water to clean.

We had organized a rally today at Goodluck chowk, Pune. This project was initiated by Dr Megha Sharma, President- Rotary Club of Pune Kalyani Nagar. We intend to organize an awareness rally on menstrual hygiene every Valentine’s day  from here on! I thank President Kiran Ingle and 13 synergy clubs of our district 3131 to organize the campaign in the presence of our District Governor Rashmi Kulkarni along with support of various social influencers and rotarians.

This pan India drive shall be followed by distribution of menstrual cups across multiple districts on the occasion of Women’s Day (8th March 2021). Our vision is to make it an International drive by 2024 and onwards for women globally.

Youth (Rotaracters) will be completely involved in the project.

Each trained volunteer will be given 50 beneficiaries to train and take follow ups every month. The youth is remarkable in society and hence can help have a wider reach. We also have  multiple Social Influencers who have stepped ahead to be a part of this noble cause.

This project can definitely give a spark to a global cause that is not only good for woman health, but also environmentally friendly.

Let's make a difference in other peoples lives by performing community service which is a worthy endeavor & a revolution in itself!
